Forgotten Victims is a non-profit organization formed in response to the lack of support services and resources available for people who have been the cause of a true accident that has resulted in another person's injury or death. We provide a forum for people who have experienced this trauma to connect and share their stories in order to ease the pain of their emotional, spiritual, and even legal processes following an accident. The organization aims to increase access to services and resources for those in need of emotional, spiritual, and / or legal support. It is our goal to combat the isolation and stigma many people experience after a life-changing accident of this nature by helping increase awareness of the trauma they undergo and to increase the options people have for dealing with this trauma. Forgotten Victims was founded in 2003 and is based in San Diego, California. For more information about the Founder, Karen Conde please click here.
Our Mission Statement:
"Forgotten Victim's supports those who have been the cause of true accidents that resulted in catastrophic injuries or death to another."
Forgotten Victims believes in honoring the process that people who are the cause of an accident undergo – emotionally, spiritually, and even legally - and hopes to provide support for them during their healing process. We respect that the person who has been caused injury or death from an accident is truly the victim, and also wish to recognize the hardship of the person who has caused the accident; who is in some ways a victim of circumstances and a victim of the guilt, grief, and hardship they must endure. Our philosophy is to create space for the stories, pain, and realizations to be heard and shared so that people can support one another to overcome the trauma they have experienced. Dealing with the psychological trauma after an accident can be debilitating for many people and Forgotten Victims provides help for those coping with the emotional, spiritual, and legal aftermath of causing an accident. Psychological trauma can make dealing with emotions associated with the situation unbearable. In a state of trauma, people can become incapacitated, overwhelmed with feelings of helplessness, and can feel unbalanced in their sanity. Their ideas about the world and / or their spiritual beliefs may become challenged or confused. Guilt, as well as ‘survivor's guilt', very commonly leads to depression and even self-punishment in various ways. We believe that working through this in a healthy way is possible if resources and support are made available for those in need; which is the very purpose of this organization.
